About the King Valley Tourism Association The King Valley Tourism Association (KVTA) was formed in 1996 by an enthusiastic group of business people to promote tourism in the King Valley and to work with local and state government authorities to obtain funding for community projects and promotion of the King Valley. The KVTA publishes the King Valley Indulgence brochure, which in 2007 was expanded to include all tourism related businesses in the area, making it a valuable ‘one stop’ information guide for all visitors. The KVTA also plans to establish an internet site, to further promote businesses in the valley and extend awareness of the natural attractions the valley has to offer in a region already renowned for its great wines, gourmet food and restaurants. The KVTA also supports cultural activities in the Valley, presenting the annual King Valley Art Show held as part of the Queen’s Birthday “Weekend Fit for a King” food and wine festival. Funds raised from the 2007 Art Show supported the King Valley Art Group’s “ Where There’s Smoke…” exhibition of fire photos and stories gathered from community members who endured the devastating bushfires of the 2006/7 summer. As part of the Bushfire Recovery Program, this exhibition received the 2007 Australia Day award from Rural City of Wangaratta for the Best Community Project of The Year. The KVTA began when the King valley was a relatively unknown tourist destination. Now as new winery cellar doors and restaurants open and adventure tourism grows in popularity they foresee a great future for the King Valley and will continue to actively promote both business and community endeavors.
