Judge's Notes:
This painting is a breathtaking work, characterized mainly by beautifully harmonizing pallette, from the backlit sky through to the low- lit foreground. The artist cleverly maintains a carefully measured degree of light, tone and contrast to every aspect of the scene. Twilight subjects such as this are extremely difficult to treat in this way and require the artist to be on location to gain experience and good eyesight is essential to read true colour values of shadow. Deeply rich and polished in traditional style, this romantic expressionistic work is seamless throughout and fully captures the afterglow of this rural sheep yard at sunset. |

|
Judge's Notes:
This painting is fresh, immediate, somewhat unorthodox in technique, but clear, clean and airy. The atmosphere is typical of this subject in certain circumstances or seasons. This is an unsuspecting choice of subject, looking upwards to the sky, but allows the artist to express herself in an alternative language. i.e: ‘I am youthful, exuberant, lively and joyous'. |

Judge's Notes:
This painting captures the grandeur and rugged character of the high country. Rather ‘Streeton’ like in approach, unlabored, impressionistic with the illusion of detail and with enough sunny green and gold to warm an otherwise bleak and icy terrain. |

Judge's Notes:
High on impact, this very risky execution of work on such a large scale is confident and convincing in the sky, water surface, and reflections, with a marvellous luminous atmosphere. This work shows a masterly control of the water colour medium. |

Judge's Notes:
This bush scene is charmingly atmospheric. Transparent and clear deft washes and convincing foreground shadow values lure the eye into this small work. Very well co-ordinated pallette with sunlit accents sensitively placed to provide appropriate modeling of all forms. |

Judge's Notes:
Quite daring, energized and fully charged. Dramatic, spontaneous and intuitively executed. Black, deep purple and gold have made a winning combination and the design and composition is strong and well balanced, especially the use of darks and lights. A very painterly impression! |

Judge's Notes:
The main attraction of this gem is the handling of light within each and all rose heads. It captures convincingly the delicacy of each petal, the subtle throw of light and shadow between each; also it captures the velvety texture and softness of these roses. With equal proficiency the artist has handled the difficulty of crystal and porcelain, including the direction of light and back lighting. She has a correct sense of clarity and surface reflections. |

Judge's Notes:
A bold, clear work; concentric, symmetrical and upright. Deliberate, confident, and consistent technique throughout with sufficient accent colour appropriately placed. |

Judge's Notes:
A brooding, powerful, classic subject, with uniform lighting throughout. Wonderful sense of volume and space, in and around the subject, enhanced with a faint suggestion of background furniture, further grounding and supporting the work. Interesting also is the ability of the artist to differentiate the clock face, as if itwere china, enamel or bone. |

Judge's Notes:
This is one of a pair, both equally attractive. It uses two plates per print and it is not so much the printing but the sheer artistic talent required to effect the background texture. An exquisite etching or collagraph of manufactured background surface texture, which includes all manner of small stick and leaf fall, reminiscent of a ‘Salvador Dali’ surrealistic style. |

Judge's Notes:
This is a masterful and powerful expressionistic work. Exquisite handling of the drapery along the top rear contrasting with the foreground, a bird of prey perhaps, apparently deceased, or laminated between life and death, nevertheless still full of fury and flight. This contemporary, dramatic work is full of interpretive speculation as to its true message, which adds a high degree of intrigue overall with wonderfully balanced line, form and dynamic energy throughout. |

Judge's Notes:
A most noble, dramatic and bold work and certainly a brave choice of subject: A rocky bush outcrop, so typically Australian, yet so un-notable. Enough filtered sunlight enters from above to provide convincing modeling and relief to the subject's natural leaf, stick fall, and rock placements. I like the lovely natural structure of shape and line in these random elements, capturing the natural beauty of such ‘disorder’ we find everywhere in such beautiful and serene places. |

Judge's Notes:
This exquisite small scene looks towards the sunlight, should I say a divine light. It is a whimsical concept but executed with equal mystical treatment throughout. Most likely a vineyard, I find it to be a timeless, distorted reality, owing to no particular place other than the realm of imagination and spiritual joy. |

Abandoned Tobacco Kilns |
|
Judge's Notes:
Tobacco kilns are a very specific subject to this area indeed but this painting goes beyond the traditional representation of these iconic structures.
The palette fits the colour scheme of the crop and the overall design employs strong and cohesive drafting fundamentals to underpin identifiable remnants of kiln stacks scattered through this local landscape graphic.
Subliminally, this fragmented, constantly shifting work could well be a modern interpretation of an industry under siege and the controversy surrounding tobacco products. |
