PETRA REECE
Petra was born in Holland and educated in Australia. She grew up within an artistic
family.
Both her father and older brother are stained glass artists and for the past 25
years Petra has been working with them designing and drawing the large cartoons
necessary for the manufacture of these windows.
Petra has had solo exhibitions of
her oil paintings and also been a finalist in numerous competitions. She was
awarded two portrait prizes, which were acquired by the Castlemaine Regional
Gallery, a landscape prize was also purchased by the Nillumbik Shire and is in their
permanent collection. Petra is represented by the Eva Breuer Gallery in Sydney and
this year shared an exhibition with fellow artists called “Nude” at the Ochre Gallery in
Collingwood.
“My paintings, drawings and printmaking are figurative, I normally paint in series. With my Still Life works I concentrate on soft voluminous fabrics and the hard surfaces of metal and ceramic. My landscapes are usually of beaches and sand
dunes with an emphasis on light and cloud formations. I continue to work from the
life model, which allows me to investigate fully the dramatic effect of light and shade”.
